M.Mulah

Mulaku (forming the Meemu Atoll administrative unit) is an atoll formation located at the southern end of the Maldives centrally-located eastern chain of atolls, 14 km south from Felidhoo; its closest neighbour is the small Vattaru Reef (situated in the passage between Mulaku and Felidhoo, located 3 km off the southern rim of Mulaku). The atoll has an irregular shape, measuring 48 km from north to south with an average width of around 24 km east to west.

There are 34 islands on the atoll, with the principal islands including: Mulah (0.578 km²), Madifushi (10.9 ha), Naalaafushi (8.9 ha), Kolhufushi (7.56 ha), Dhiggaru (4.61 ha), Veyvah (3.45 ha), Maduvvaree (3.10 ha), Muli (2.73 ha) and Raimandhoo (2.16 ha). Mulah — the largest island — lies within the lagoon itself at the entrance to the largest passage connecting the deep interior lagoon with the open ocean. Most of the islets of Mulaku atoll are located upon the large reef segments occurring on the eastern and southeastern sides of the atoll (left side of the above image). The reef rim on the western side is broken into 14 small, similar shaped, units that are divided by narrow, but deep, passages of less than 1 km in width.
